Not Ready, Probably Fine
This weekend, Adam and I took turns having panic attacks.
We leave in a week, and our apartment is still not packed. True to San Francisco landlord style, ours jerked us around about keeping the place, and then pulled the rug out from under us. Which is fine, even if it was unsettling. You can't really pick up and leave for real if you're still renting. Still, it didn't help our overall calm.
And now, a towering stack of boxes, our books, our things, our junk, and our stuff, stands tall and incomplete. We aren't even close to done.
A coworker told me the other day that when he took off to go travel for a while, the worst parts were the month leading in, and the first month back. I find this very comforting.
Above is the car in which all our things we'll need to for an indeterminate amount of time needs to fit. Adam is convinced he needs only one pair of shorts. I find this logic troublesome. I am convinced I should have like 5 pairs of shoes. Adam finds this logic troublesome. Before we even hit the road, a lot of compromises will need to be made.
But we're definitely bringing Dominion.
Here is a list of things I have panicked about in the last week:
- Brexit-- possible indication that Trump will win the election, and I won't be here to help any campaigns to stop that from happening.
- Earthquake will hit Bay Area while we are gone, and I will be unable to contact my family / be distant from them in a time of calamity.
- Game of Thrones Season 7 will start early, and we will have NO means to watch it internationally.
- Murder. Of course.
- While driving the 4Runner, I was convinced I'd get in an accident, and then we'd have to cancel the whole trip.
- Our apartment won't get packed up in time, and in our haste we will break every single one of our dishes.
- A 10 Cloverfield Lane situation could become my reality. That's mostly just because I watched that movie last week. It's a really good movie, btw.
- FOMO on things happening in the states, including but not limited to: weddings, readings, dinner parties and bookstore events.
